The Job:

We are seeking an experienced and creative Sr. Mechanical Engineering.   Candidate will provide expertise and hands on Engineering Design in the early stages of product development.  Candidate will be an expert in mechanical and mechanism design and development.  Reporting to the Manager of Mechanical Engineering, in Toronto, the candidate will be highly hands on and be a go-to Engineer for Mechanical solutions.

Designers, Manufacturing Engineers, Model Makers and Model Shops to help transform conceptual designs and requirements of play patterns into manufacturable components and assemblies, adhering to DFMA principles for mass production, cost reduction, safety, and quality.  In addition, this role bridges what is Critical to Consumer (CTC) and Critical to Quality (CTQ) into final Toy mechanisms and design.  Will be a key player within the Engineering Innovation team, providing mechanical, manufacturing, and mechatronic solutions from proof of concepts to final model release and mass production.

What we can expect from you:

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership in mechanical and material engineering expertise throughout new product development stages for higher complexity projects.
  • Work effectively within a team a small team of Mechanical Engineers and a larger global team of Electrical, Mechanical Engineers and subject matter experts, to provide functional product and component CAD designs and models.
  • Work closely with both in-house and external model shops for proof-of-concept and mechanism development and build.
  • Develop fascinating Consumer Products in collaboration with a larger global team of Engineers and cross-functional teams.
  • Participate in product brainstorming and help verify, confirm, and/or correct desired concepts, directions of other Engineers.
  • Drive productivity and schedule gains by implementing early design successes and decisions for reduced revisions and debug time.

Job Requirements

You should apply if you have the following:

  • Solid understanding of rapid prototyping methods and 3D printing.
  • Carry out, commission, and review Mold Flow Analysis and other Computer Aided Simulations an Asset.
  • Ability to ideate, create, engineer, and design mechanical assemblies, apparatus, and mechanisms used to optimize performance across a wide range of toy categories (Robotics, Activities, Remote Control, and Construction).
  • Be organized and able to manage and oversea multiple projects in different phases of their respective development lifecycle.
  • Ability to start from design illustrations/specifications/briefs along with 2D isometric views to create 3D proof-of-concept CAD assembly drawings
  • A solid understanding of factory and mass production environments.
  • Experience working with creative professionals (designers and engineers) both within and outside the company.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills. Be able to present mechanical solutions and value added engineering to non-technical people.
  • Ability to travel internationally and within North America
  • Brings a "hands-on" team approach to solving problems 

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years Mechanical Engineering experience (Toy Experience an asset but not mandatory. Consumer Product Experience a Must)
  • BS or MS Degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering
  • Ability to inspire and mentor colleagues and cross functional team members in creating and delivering successful Mechanical Engineering solutions.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing methods and techniques, including injection molding, CNC machining, fastening methods, bonding, assembly, foam, deco operations…etc.
  • Ability to design Plastic Injection molding parts. Understanding of Tool & Die methods.
  • Expert in SOLIDWORKS and/or CREO/Pro-Engineer.  Freeform experience and Rhino3D experience an asset.
