The Role:

The Vice President Current Series is responsible for curating Spin Master Entertainment’s (SME’s) existing entertainment properties so as to ensure that the integrity of our brands is maintained and evolved to the highest creative standards.  Creative excellence will be achieved by working in close collaboration with the Vice President Development – Creative Director to ensure a seamless transfer of management of the entertainment properties that are greenlit as between the Development team and the Current Series team.  You will also work in close collaboration with the Vice President Production so that together you can deliver finished products that meet the highest standard of quality.  The Vice President Current Series is responsible for building and maintaining strong, collaborative partnerships with the heads of each of Spin Master Limited’s General Business Units (GBUs).  Year-over-year working with these internal partners to ensure that season refreshes of our entertainment properties, perform enabling the Company to achieve its strategic milestones. Acting as a spokesperson for SME externally, you will prioritize broadcaster and other distribution channel relationships so that SME remains responsive to the needs of the marketplace. 

What we can expect from you:

MANAGERIAL:

  • Overseeing the Current Series team and in particular the Directors of Creative Affairs, Series Directors, and the Creative Producer Brand First Content as well as other key creative personnel and third party content creators, motivating the team toward the achievement of optimal performance.
  • Setting clear goals for team members and providing them with the tools for success
  • Establishing benchmarks for success
  • Providing regular feedback and annual reviews of direct reports
  • Involving the Executive Vice President SME as required to fine tune the management process
  • Ensuring proper management of all those in the area of current series
  • Implementing the annual budgets related to Current Series including projecting new/revised associated human resource requirements year-over-year.Participating as necessary as a member of SME’s Leadership team 

CURRENT SERIES:

  • Continually evaluate the marketplace for best in class creative writing, directing, performance talent, studios and other creative parties that will best refresh SME’s entertainment properties so as to maximize their life cycle. 
  • Ensuring the orderly transition of entertainment properties from the Development team to the Current Series team.  Ensuring that all series are curated and evolved with integrity and to the highest creative standard. 
  • Working with the Production team and Manager Artist/Talent Recruitment and Retention to recruit and retain the best in class creative talent so as to establish a working environment that places SME as a first choice for creative talent, to work and continue working over the long term. 
  • Overseeing the Directors of Creative Affairs and show specific teams to ensure editorial process across productions achieves the creative benchmarks as established by Senior Management. 
  • In collaboration with the Vice President Production, select studio and creative partners to ensure the best quality product for the property in question. 
  • Maintain strong relationships with, and being responsive to, the notes, requests and in-house practices of broadcast and other distribution partners so as to ensure client satisfaction while safeguarding SME’s creative vision.   
  • Lead and maintain strong internal partnerships with GBU leads in refreshing and evolving SME entertainment properties so as to facilitate the appropriate and effective integration of toyetic elements.
  • Regularly inform and involve the Executive Vice President SME of top-level creative decision-making.

Job Requirements

  • A university degree or equivalent
  • 8-10 years’ experience overseeing the creative elements of childrens animation production from script to screen
  • Experience managing broadcast/distribution relationships, including responding to notes and ensuring alignment with these partners
  • Ability to serve as a member of an inter-disciplinary management team
