Job Overview:

 

We are seeking an experienced and creative Senior Mechanical Engineer to provide expertise in the early stages of product design and development.  Reporting to the Director of Engineering and Product Development, this Senior Engineer will closely work with Product Development Engineers, Industrial Designers, Manufacturing Engineers, and global contract manufactures to help transform conceptual designs and play patterns into manufacture-able components and assemblies with DFMA principles and a strong skill in reliable function, cost reduction, safety, and quality.  In addition, this role bridges what is Critical to Consumer (CTC) and Critical to Quality (CTQ) into a final consistent and manufacture-able Toy design.  The Senior Mechanical Engineer will play a central role within the Toronto Engineering and PD team providing mechanical solutions and assistance in proof of concepts for select projects.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

Engineering

 

  • Provide mechanical and material engineering expertise throughout new product development stages for higher complexity projects.
  • Provide final product and component CAD designs which are ready for tooling and production (Asia, Mexico, USA, France)
  • Conduct or commission Part analysis including FEA, moldflow, Stress-Strain,..etc.
  • Work closely with both in-house and external model shops for proof-of-concept and mechanism development.
  • Detailed design of components and products for manufacture
  • Participate in product brainstorming and help verify, confirm , or correct desired concepts, directions.
  • Drive productivity and schedule gains by implementing early design successes for less revisions. 

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

 

  • 5-7 years Mechanical Engineering experience related to Consumer Products
  • BSc. or MSc. Degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing methods and technics. Eg. Injection Moulding, Roto-Molding, Machining, Fastening methods, Bonding, Assembly, Foam, Deco operations…etc.
  • Expert in Solidworks. Freeform experience and Rhino3D experience an asset.
  • Toy experience an asset but not necessary.
  • Ability to ideate, create, engineer, and design mechanical assemblies, apparatus, internal and external mechanisms used to create optimum toy performance across a wide range of toy categories (Robotics, Activities, RC)
  • Highly organized. Able to manage multiple projects over duration of development lifecycles.
  • Ability to start from Design Illustrations/Specifications/Briefs along with 2D isometric views and from this, create 3D proof-of-concept CAD assembly drawings, working through design iterations up to and including final designs for mass producible.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strong results based mechanical solutions for effective and efficient product function.
  • Experience working with creative professionals (designers and engineers) both within and outside the company.
  • Experience working with model shops both within and outside the company.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize competing demands
  • Ability to travel internationally and within North America.
  • Brings a "hands-on" team approach to solving problems
