The Job:

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will provide expertise in the production of all new products produced at suppliers in Mexico. This person will work closely across cross-functional teams to support all projects through development phases: evaluate feasibility of new product concepts from an operations perspective, work with the suppliers to define the manufacturing methods to guarantee the lowest COGS and tooling costs, guarantee functional and design specification adherence, ensure products meet all defined quality and safety requirements, and work with Operations partners to deliver required volumes on time. This person will be the main liaison between the Spin Master development teams and the manufacturer.  In addition, they will partner closely with the Sourcing team to help identify and qualify new suppliers in the region.  The position will also provide leadership, training, and mentorship for direct reports. 

 

What we can expect from you:

Engineering

  • Modify product designs to support manufacturing and assembly methods (DFMA)
  • Work with the product engineering team to examine parts/components and tooling to ascertain purpose, cost and value by utilizing knowledge of product design, development and cost engineering
  • Design new systems and processes for the introduction of new products or for the improvement of existing ones
  • Ideate and solve production and/or engineering and quality design problems
  • Improve efficiency in the manufacturing processes through continuous improvement and OPEX techniques
  • Improve operational quality by evaluating and recommending process re-design and implement changes
  • Evaluate suppliers’ capabilities through manufacturing processes, safety, and quality validation

 

Project Management

  • Provide timely and frequent updates to PD, GBU, and relevant Operations teams; identify risks and opportunities in regards to technical, cost, and schedule aspects of development; escalate issues when necessary to address manufacturing issues quickly
  • Drive production schedules with suppliers and ensure there is alignment with the entire product development timeline
  • Assist the product engineer to ensure all projects are delivered on-cost, on-spec, on-time
  • Understand and communicate product specifications to our selected suppliers
  • Use MS Project to manage & track key deliverables and proactively resolve future issues to keep the product on track, on cost, and on specification

 

Leadership

  • Provide direct training and mentorship to direct reports; identify developmental strengths and opportunities and define plan for continual improvement
  • Align internal and external teams to execute diversification strategy, and support Spin Master’s PD, Sourcing, QA, and Manufacturing priorities

Job Requirements

You should apply if you have the following:

  • 5-10 years in Operations or Product Engineering experience
  • Toy or consumer good experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical manufacturing processes, including assembly and testing
  • Desired: CAD skills. Preferably Solidworks.
  • Proven design for manufacturing expertise preferred
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish
