The Job:

The Product Development Engineer (PDE) will be responsible for supporting and driving the execution of global toy and games portfolios, ideally possessing a technical, manufacturing, and project management background.  The person in this role will work closely with large cross-functional teams (Design, Marketing, Engineering, Quality, Packaging, etc.) to manage product development cycle from concept through production and customer feedback.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to; establishing critical path/milestones and dependencies to ensure timely and successful delivery of products, identifying risks and opportunities to preempt development hurdles, providing escalation management, and working with stakeholders to balance business, design, and technical objectives.  The successful candidate will be able to operate in a highly dynamic CPG environment, working on the most innovative products and solutions, by exercising considerable judgment in employing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results while continuously driving for improvements of existing practices.

What we can expect from you:

  • Establish project plans in collaboration with cross-functional development teams to determine tasks, milestones, resources, planned and actual dates
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams and global partners, communicating brand and/or project information, and executing to take product from concept to production
  • Manage programs to time, cost, and quality reflective of business and development objectives
  • Use appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule, and costs
  • Identify, anticipate, and manage risks or issues at the project level and resources as needed
  • Partner with global operations to provide early warning of delays, and strategize appropriate solutions in development plans or processes to deliver on demand forecast revisions
  • Support and drive cross-functional category teams to manage projects including risks, key handoffs, and deliverables
  • Monitor resource utilization within the program and recommend adjustments to resource allocation as needed
  • Report and escalate to management as needed; present verbal and written reports defining plans, problems, and resolutions to appropriate levels of management
  • Continuously improve project management toolkits, processes, and methodologies utilized for product development

  • Ability to collaborate with creative professionals within design, engineering, marketing, and packaging, while holding each team accountable for deliverables.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • Ability to employ critical thinking and demonstrate a "hands-on" team approach to solving problems
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Apply problem solving techniques to approach any/all issues.  If unable to resolve, demonstrates a willingness to actively engage other teams to drive resolution
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Experience with plastics, materials, manufacturing, and/or engineering costs for durable goods is an asset
  • Proactive and enthusiastic in approaching challenges, with a solution-oriented mindset
  • Operate with little to no supervision in technical and organizational capacities, and understanding of when to escalate as necessary
  • Ability to take direction and flex execution style based on feedback from teams
  • Ability to travel in North America and internationally

You should apply if you have the following:

  • BS degree in Engineering, Operations, or related technical field
  • 2-7 years in Product Engineering experience
  • Exposure to product lifecycle management tools
  • Toy or CPG experience an asset
