The Job:

Candidate must possess a history of strong leadership, deep practical engineering knowledge and a proven track record for timely project delivery, project management, cost and quality control. A successful candidate must be able to work effectively in a team environment and will interface closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Marketing, Design, Finance, and Operations teams across the globe. The desired individual is someone who will bring knowledge and creativity to the position as well as have the discipline to drive results and champion the new product development processes.

What we are looking for:

We’re looking for an enthusiastic product designer who loves creating product with personality to work on Zoomer and other brands.  The role requires good knowledge of design and manufacturing, strong project management skills, and an understanding of electronic toy development.  The ideal candidate will also have great sketching ability and an eye for character design.

Working in a fast-paced environment, you’ll show a passion for what you are working on and a constant desire to up your game.  You need to be prepare to speak to your designs and explain why they’re great, but you’re open to input from any level and are happy to make changes to get the product to the next level.  You’ll need to be pro-active to get stuff done and know how to get people to understand your vision, but above all, you’ll love playing with your products.

  • 3-5 years’ experience as a designer in the consumer goods industry, preferably with 3 years in toys.
  • Proven ideation, brainstorming, concept rendering, sketching and computer skills, are essential.
  • Industrial Design degree or equivalent

Job Requirements

What we can expect from you:

  • Design and develop robotic, interactive toys and collectibles from looks and personality to play and interactivity.
  • Take responsibility for the project management of multiple products with unique features, making each of them fantastic and fun to play with.
  • Report to the Design Manager and partner with the Brand Manager to drive the business forward strategically.
  • Manage multiple projects on a daily basis including utilizing outside consultants and vendors as needed.
  • Come up with new ways to play with interactive electronic toys and love the fun moments that occur in a great play pattern.
  • Create clear product line presentations for internal review up the Exec level.
  • Liaise with inventors and in-house resources to deliver a stream of new product concepts to supply the innovation pipeline.
  • Prepare sketches of potential product ideas and concepts.
  • Work closely with the Toronto and Hong Kong based engineers to deliver products on time and on cost.

 

Who’s a good fit for this team:

  • Strong project management and organizational skills is a must.  Spin Master is a fast-paced environment with a lot going on at the same time on so you’ll need the ability to multi-task and prioritise jobs.
  • Strong design skills and the ability to communicate this vision to freelancers.
  • Creative problem solver with the ability to think on your feet and propose novel solutions.
  • Experience in electronic, interactive toy development is a plus.
  • A methodical and logical approach to problem solving and a love of technical challenges would help.
  • Technical understanding of electronic product development, or an interest in interactive play patterns and/or game design.
  • CAD modelling skills and understanding of plastic assembly design.
  • Strong sketching ability and the skills to communicate verbally and visually.
  • Able to give art direction to outsourced talent and take responsibility for the schedules and costs.
  • Must be open to change and able to cope in a fast paced, and fun work environment.
