The Job:

We are seeking an experienced Model Maker to turn ideas and digital designs into reality. Reporting to the Model Shop Manager this person will primarily be responsible for building complex electro-mechanical toys. These will involve proof of concept validation and multiple development cycles in areas including Robotics, Remote Control, and Interactive Plush. The role requires a solid understanding of model making and manufacturing techniques as well as advanced experience using rapid prototyping equipment such as 3D Printers and CNC’s.

What we can expect from you:

  • Develop toy prototypes and provide mechanical, tinkering, and material expertise.
  • Translate digital designs (2D and/or 3D assets) into fully functional electro-mechanical products.
  • Apply traditional Model Making techniques to assemble, test, and debug complex assemblies.
  • Utilize 3D Modeling Software to modify components and develop simple mechanisms.
  • Operate equipment including 3D Printers, Multi-axis CNC, lathe, drill press, band saw, etc.
  • Provide employees with technical assistance and guidance for developing or repairing prototypes.
  • Work with a cross functional team operating under tight deadlines and competing priorities.
  • Provide feedback and insight to design helping improve manufacturability of prototypes.
  • Promote and maintain a clean, safe, and organized working environment.

  • Provide high quality and timely analysis & research that will support the team in identifying & developing new innovate products or brands to create incremental revenue opportunities.  Effectively utilize all available on line & data base resources available.
  • Efficiently manage and track all projects and prepare timely and accurate related status reports  
  • Effectively manage& prioritize multiple time sensitive projects
  • Strong presentation & communication skills  

Job Requirements

You should apply if you have the following:

  • 4+ years of Model making experience related to Robotics, Animatronics, and/or relevant Consumer Products
  • Toy experience an asset but not necessary. Consumer product experience is a must.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing methods and techniques, e.g. injection molding, roto-molding, machining, fastening methods, bonding, assembly, foam, deco operations…etc.
  • Ability to transform design illustrations/specifications/briefs along with 2D isometric views or 3D assets to a physical proof-of-concept model
  • Experience with 3D modelling software such as Solidworks or Rhino3D an asset.
  • Highly organized and able to multi-task and prioritize competing demands
  • Experience working with creative professionals (designers and engineers) both within and outside the company
  • Brings a "hands-on" team approach to solving problems
  • Strong interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to travel internationally and within North America
