The Job:

The Manager, Internal Communications contributes to Spin Master’s success by supporting the development and leading the execution of a comprehensive communications strategy to inform and engage internal audiences.

The Manager, Internal Communications will work closely with various internal teams, as a communications subject matter expert, to develop and implement distinctive, effective & results-oriented internal communications strategies, including participation in project teams, drafting materials and leveraging creative communication vehicles.

The strongest candidate will have experience working within a publicly-traded company and will have managed company communication channels including town halls and intranet. Proven experience providing strategic counsel to senior leaders is essential. The chosen candidate will model and act in accordance with Spin Master’s guiding principles. This position is based at Spin Master’s global headquarters in Toronto and reports directly to the Vice President, Communications & CSR.

What we can expect from you:

  • Develop an internal communications strategy and manage key internal communications activities and develop and distribute internal communications for a variety of channels including presentations, town halls, digital screens and announcements.
  • Provide internal communications support to senior executives including drafting of speeches, emails and key messages.
  • Oversee and publish regular content on SpinCentral, the company’s intranet site, working in partnership with a variety of content contributors, developing an editorial calendar and original content for the site.
  • Manage communications related to internal events such as corporate volunteer days, social committee activities, employee marketing/brand events, off-sites and others as needed.
  • Ensure all communications have a consistent tone and voice, meet brand standards and connect to the company’s strategic vision, core values and priorities.
  • Institute mechanisms by which to measure the impact of internal communications efforts.
  • Support Human Resources and global HR teams in the development and dissemination of HR programming and staff engagement activities.
  • Stay abreast of employee communications best practices and leverage internal surveys to evolve channels and strategy.
  • Work with the facilities and information technology teams, and others, to establish protocols and develop communications to employees.
  • Collaborate with the broader communications team, including external communications, social marketing and digital archivists to leverage content and knowledge to promote Spin Master and its products.

  • Writing & Communication - Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and the aptitude to synergize complex ideas and thoughts into understandable and accurate messaging for internal audiences.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Develop strong internal relationships, build trust with key stakeholders and credibility with senior executives.
  • Self-starter – Effectively work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environments with changing priorities.
  • Discretion - Appropriately handle confidential / proprietary information. 
  • Problem-Solving – Resourceful, creative hands-on approach to brand building and problem solving
  • Creativity - Develop creative and compelling communication materials that resonate with the target audience.
  • Organization - Manage multiple cross-functional projects simultaneously with excellent personal organizational skills, minimal oversight and high attention to detail.
  • Technologically Savvy - Extremely savvy with content management systems and back-end software for intranet sites and digital screens. Able to learn new technology quickly.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Five - seven years of experience in an internal communications role
  • Bachelors’ degree or post-grad certificate in communications, public relations or related discipline.
  • Strategic communication mindset with demonstrated success in developing strategic communications plans and addressing complex issues with positive impact.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration skills with the ability to connect with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence key stakeholders and provide strategic counsel to senior executives.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills with experience in digital, video and social media channels.
  • Ability to successfully work and adapt in a demanding, time sensitive environment with tight deadlines.
  • Advanced knowledge of, and experience using the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), SharePoint, InDesign or Photoshop.
