The Job:

As Line Producer, you are responsible for managing the project’s production budget and schedule; executing the overall production plan and overseeing the day-to-day internal & external operations. The Line Producer must have a strong understanding of animation pipelines. This role is also the primary physical production liaison between SME, and, the project’s creative team including SME’s Creative Producer, story editor/showrunner, rights holders, and toy team, and internal departments and television broadcasters.

The role of the Line Producer is critical to ensure: (i) timely communication between SME’s production department, and, SME’s Finance, Accounting, and Legal & Business Affairs departments; and, (ii) the oversight of all physical production of a project to ensure that the production of the project is completed on time and within budget. The Line Producer works, in particular, with the project’s Creative Producer and SME’s Head of Production to ensure that all physical production issues are resolved on a timely basis for the maximum benefit of SME and Spin Master. The Line Producer needs to have excellent communication skills with all levels of staff, independent contractors and third parties, and will be expected to work closely with stakeholders (inside and outside) to the benefit of SME, and Spin Master in general.

What we can expect from you:

  • During pre-production of a project, working closely with Head of Production to create a project’s production schedule, production budget, and production assumptions.
  • During production, working with SME’s head of Production, to ensure that a production is completed on time and within budget while ensuring the pre-established creative integrity of a production is maintained, protected and delivered.
  • Assisting SME’s Head of Production with the set-up and implementation financial monitoring systems, controlling production expenditures and production materials, and monitoring and controlling the progress of a project’s production.
  • With oversight by SME’s Head of Production, overseeing all other pre-production activities including hiring the production team, ensuring compliance with SME’s regulations and codes of practice, sourcing equipment and suppliers, engaging third party vendors.
  • Working with SME’s Head of Production to sort out any production related insurance requirements and/or claims.
  • Working with SME’s Head of Production to meet project deadlines/milestones as assigned or required by SME.
  • Working with SME’s head of production to maintain cost report tracking for each project as required.
  • Working with SME’s VP of Entertainment and Head of Production to support the director(s) of the project and providing support for him/her/them with time management issues, and with problem solving in respect of the creative and production pipeline for a project.
  • As required, attending voice records, mixes and on line and off line edits.
  • Supervising asset management and working with SME’s Data Asset Coordinator in connection with same.
  • Leading by example with best practices of people management.
  • Working with SME’s senior management team to carry out risk assessments as may be required by SME and/or by law and/or regulation including: identifying hazards in the production environment, assessing the level of risk, recommending action, and carrying out a review, from time to time, of each such assessment.
  • Managing strategic professional relationships, including with production crews and third party vendors, for the maximum benefit of SME.
  • Such other tasks as may be required by SME’s Head of Production.

Job Requirements

Who’s a good fit for this team:

  • In-depth understanding of the animation production process – both 2D and 3D.
  • In-depth experience in line producing animated children’s television series productions is essential.
  • A thorough understanding of and experience working with the rules, laws, regulations, policies regarding development, production and exploitation of Canadian content animated productions including CAVCO and OMDC rules and policies, CMF guidelines and policies
  • College or University Degree.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills essential.
  • A high level of proficiency in Word, Final Draft, Power Point and Excel, Movie Magic.
  • In-depth knowledge of and experience in production scheduling and budgeting including thorough knowledge of the physical and technical processes for production of Canadian content children’s animated television series.
  • Knowledge and understanding of collective bargaining agreements and, in particular the provisions relating to animation: WGC IPA, WGA MBA, DGC, and ACTRA IPA.
  • A calm approach to all situations and ability to problem solve quickly, creatively and logically.
  • Thorough understanding of and experience working with customary broadcast delivery guidelines, requirements and technical specifications.
  • Excellent industry contacts.
  • Ability to multitask on several production issues at once and to prioritize.
  • Able to work under pressure to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment, and deadline oriented.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, as well as diplomacy to balance the creative expectations of the director(s), artists and other creative personnel, with the financial resources available
  • Excellent ability to analyze and summarize.
