Job Description


Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Finance Manager UK & Netherlands is a key member of the European Finance Team and with the primary objective to support and build Spin Master’s finance capability. This position is responsible for accurate and timely Financial Accounting, Reporting, Statutory & Control Compliance of the following legal entities:

  1. Spin Master Toys UK Ltd (SMUK) – UK Market
  2. Spin Master International BV (SMINT) – European Distributor HQ in Netherlands with Branches in Germany and Slovakia and sales across Europe
  3. Spin Master Europe Holding BV (SMEUH) – Holding Company HQ in Netherlands

The main functions of this position are:

  1. Internal Financial Reporting & Analysis
  2. External Financial Reporting, Statutory Audit, Tax and Compliance
  3. Internal Control Compliance, Reviews and Process improvements
  4. Team Management

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Monthly, quarterly, and annual General Ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and variance analysis, liaising with the Shared Service Centre in Bratislava, Snr Finance Manager Operations Finance, Finance Manager CEE, other European Finance Team members and corporate functions of Accounting & Reporting, Tax, Treasury, Internal Controls & Audit, IT, and Indirect Procurement;
  • Reporting of financial information to Corporate Headquarters in accordance with deadlines;
  • Preparation and review of monthly management accounts and any supporting analytical information ensuring accuracy and integrity of the financial and management reporting in accordance with local and Group Reporting timelines and high-quality standards, under IFRS requirements;
  • Review and approval of disbursements as required;
  • Review, approval and processing of transactions and journals as required within the Spin Master internal control framework;
  • Preparation of month end P&L market reporting and sales reports provided to the sales and management teams respectively;
  • Carry out regular cost centre reviews with the business unit leaders, and work with them to maintain departmental operational costs within budget or forecast, especially marketing and sales accruals; review the month end reports (G&A overhead focus) and comment on performance against objectives;
  • Support the budget/forecast process through preparation and review of overhead budgets working with the business unit leaders, and submission to corporate headquarters in accordance with timelines;
  • Preparation of the bi-weekly/monthly cash flow forecasts, including variance analyses to previous forecasts, and submission to Corporate Treasury;
  • Responsible for preparation of Statutory Accounts under local GAAP (Dutch, IFRS), ensuring compliance with applicable local regulatory laws for financial and tax reporting, and liaise with external tax advisors, and Corporate Tax Department as needed, to prepare and file VAT, WHT & CIT returns;
  • Responsible for preparation of SMINT and SMEUH Quarterly and Annual Financial Statements and supporting documentation for Netherlands Board of Directors;
  • Responsible for preparation of SMINT Branch Balance Sheets and P&Ls, Branch Statutory and Tax Reports for Germany compliance requirements, and liaising with Finance Manager CEE to support the Statutory Branch Reporting in Slovakia and Hungary;
  • Supporting the development of the Spin Master and SMINT business throughout Europe by putting appropriate accounting and compliance processes in place;
  • Supporting internal and external audit requirements, as applicable, to ensure successful audit completions with no material control weaknesses and no material audit findings or adjustments;
  • Maintain compliance with company policies and processes, effective internal controls and procedures to ensure that organizational risks are minimized;
  • Review, assess, and advise on appropriate technology that meets the organization's information requirements and financial resources;
  • Drive continuous improvements in processes to deliver more efficient and effective financial reporting and analysis processes;
  • Liaise with external accounting services provider in Netherlands to ensure accounting services for SMEUH are provided to Spin Master requirements on a timely and a cost-effective basis;
  • Lead, motivate and develop direct reports via day to day management, annual objective setting, and regular reviews as required;
  • Assist in supporting Finance Team requests, ad-hoc analysis, and any local projects as required.

Job Requirements

Required Skill Set:

  • Excellent communication skills, rigorous, organised and able to work collaboratively with commercial and finance teams.
  • In-depth knowledge in accounting (IFRS, local GAAP) and controlling, risk management and taxation;
  • In-depth expert knowledge of SAP (SAP4 Hana) at Super-User level and experience of using Business Intelligence and Business Objects;
  • Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, works independently and a self-starter;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
  • Proven team development and management experience
  • Problem solving skills with the ability to seek alternative solutions as well as attention to detail with excellent follow-up;

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Graduate or Masters degree in Accounting, Finance or similar
  • Professional Accountancy Qualification with a minimum relevant PQE of 4 - 6 years preferably in the FMCG, Toy or Fashion industries.
  • In-depth knowledge in accounting (IFRS, local GAAP) and controlling, risk management and taxation;
  • In-depth expert knowledge of SAP (SAP4 Hana) at Super-User level and experience of using Business Intelligence and Business Objects;
  • Expert knowledge of Excel.
