The Job:

Reporting to the Manager, Electrical Engineering; the Electrical Engineer is responsible for designing and perfecting electronics and embedded development for Spin Master's wide range of consumer toy products! This role is a part of the larger Engineering Innovation team, reporting into head office in Toronto, Canada.

What we can expect from you:

  • Assume a vital technical role in Electronics hardware and firmware within the Engineering Innovation team.
  • Apply your knowledge of electronics, electrical engineering, embedded system design and programing, computer science, and product development to solid resource for electronics development within the company.
  • Responsible for high-quality hardware and firmware development from prototyping to production code.
  • Perform design and code reviews and recommend technical improvements.
  • Work with the team in developing system architecture and platform/module designs.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure system designs are cohesive, on-time and on-cost.
  • Manage projects with a customer-oriented mindset and provide detailed feedback using solid engineering principles.
  • Effectively communicate project status to necessary team members and elevate critical issues to upper management.
  • Research new technologies and create cost-effective applications for existing technologies.
  • Evaluate prototypes, pre-production and production samples for function.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and Quality Assurance teams on reliability and safety.
  • Work effectively with external hardware and app vendors to ensure final performance of hardware and software.

Job Requirements

Who’s a good fit for this team:

  • Organized and systematic troubleshooting / debugging skills required.
  • Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems is a plus.
  • Aptitude for taking lead of technical development an asset.
  • Team Player.
  • Familiar with Altium or similar schematic software and PCB Layout skills.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, Vision, etc.
  • App development skills would be an asset but not required.
  • Interest in robotics industry, robotic technologies, and consumer electronics an asset.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, multifaceted, and fun environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize competing demands.
  • Demonstrates a hands-on team approach to solving problems.
  • Availability for international travel from time to time to support product development needs.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of Mandarin a plus!

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2-4 years prior experience designing, programming, and troubleshooting consumer electronic products.
  • Bachelor’s degree or graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science or related field.
  • You are a “tinkerer” and a creative, dynamic, well-rounded individual.
  • Experience with microcontrollers / microprocessors (such as ARM Cortex M processor family, General Plus, Nuvoton, Winbond, Nyquest, Sensory, etc.).
  • Strong skills in embedded system design as well as firmware and software development.
  • Proficiency in C, C++, Assembly.
