Director, Games Packaging Design -- Long Island, New York

The Role:

The Director, Games Packaging Design is and even mix of new brand concept, art direction and management of junior staff. The Director is often the senior most hands-on designer on the team and will work closely with the VP of Packaging on new brand initiatives and collaborates with Sr. Creative and Brand Management to set creative strategy on key brands and individual items. The Director will lead a team of 2-5 designers and support staff and is responsible for motivating and mentoring the team to consistently produce innovative, on-target, on-time results.

What we can expect from you:

  • To lead the graphic design direction for all of Spin Master Games and its associated brands.
  • Work closely with product design team to ensure all graphic elements in the games are working together.
  • Works independently, requires little or no supervision.
  • Clearly demonstrates a solid understanding of the brands and the competitive environment as it relates to packaging.
  • Superior at getting the best value for projects assigned in or out of house. Excellent administrative skills to manage budgets for the creative department as well as manage the departments resources for best design efficiencies. Have experience sourcing. Liaison between departments, participate in senior management discussions and facilitate creative process at all levels.
  • Has excellent problem solving skills and leadership qualities.
  • Consistently maintains a positive attitude and is considered a good role model.
  • Partner with Sr. Creative Management and Brand Management to set direction for new brands and individual items.
  • Delivers innovative results that support brand strategy.
  • Work with production team to ensure integrity of design in final deliverables.
  • Works with project management to set priorities, schedules and assign projects.
  • Maintain a consistently high level of quality, thoroughness and attention to detail.
  • Communicate all project related progress/issues or concerns to the Creative Director and to Project Management in a timely and professional manner.
  • Solicit creative direction from the Creative Director in a timely manner.
  • Effectively motivates others and fosters a team environment.
  • Assist Design Manager and Brand Management team where required to develop marketing support materials, creative boards and layout presentations for new and existing business development presentations, new brand initiatives and trade shows.
  • Collaborate with Structural Engineering, Marketing, Quality Control and Product Development teams as well as overseas agents, as necessary, in the package development and approval process.
  • Maintain knowledge of new technologies within your area of expertise

Job Requirements

You're a good fit for this team if you have:

  • Advanced knowledge of Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat and Quark
  • A strong sense of design and good use of typography
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Good time management skills
  • Ability to adhere to project budgets and deadlines

You should apply if you have the following:

  • Minimum 12 years professional experience in graphic design, consumer products industry or toy package design preferred
  • Minimum 8 years creative management experience in a fast paced, high volume, entrepreneurial environment
  • Undergraduate degree in Graphic Design, (BFA) or equivalent; or 4 or more years related experience and / or training
  • Through knowledge of the creative process, including practical implementation, to effectively gauging workloads and deadline expectations.
  • Experience in advertising a plus. Superior time management skills.
  • Ability to adhere to project budgets and deadlines.
