Job Description:


The Job:

The Direct Sourcing Manager plays a critical role in the successful operations of the company.  The Manager is the sourcing process champion and commercial leader for managing and directing over $40M in annual direct spend.   The role contributes to the performance of the company by lowering COGS, and ensuring goods are received on time and on spec.
 

As a key member of the Direct Sourcing Team, the Manager will be responsible for handling the company’s end to end sourcing operations for finished products and obtains the best combination of price, service and quality for Spin Master.
 

The Direct Sourcing Manager is an expert in sourcing specific categories of goods such as games, puzzles, plastics toys, and is relied upon to develop and execute the relevant sourcing strategies to effectively source the required products.  The Manager will also develop and maintain strong working relations with the internal stakeholders including Business Unit, Product Development, Supply Chain and Sales, to understand long term and short-term priorities and develop or adjust sourcing strategies accordingly.  As a valued partner to the business, the Manager will contribute ideas and innovations that will improve fabrication of products and deliver further productivity to the Company.


What can we expect from you:


Category and Sourcing Expert:

  • Deep category knowledge:  Intimate familiarity with manufacturing trends including labour, component and production costs for category across multiple regions. Keep abreast of industry and market trends and best practices.
  • Category Strategies:  Prepare Category Strategies that outline and communicate benefits and risks for where and how to manufacture, anticipated shifts in negotiating leverage, changes in manufacturing industry, and other supply trends.
  • Business Interlock:  Through effective partnership with the Business, develop high level sourcing plans that consider Business vision and goals.  This includes understanding supply capacity or constraints in step with anticipated production needs.
  • End to end knowledge of sourcing process including sourcing process and tools, policies, business systems and processes including ERP.
  • Affect improvements in sourcing processes through digitization and simplification including management / employee communication, policy recommendations or management dashboards


Strategic Sourcing

  • Lead the development & execution of sourcing strategies to reduce COGS and increase productivity.  This includes, understanding business requirements, issuing tenders, negotiation, and building recommendation for supplier selection.
  • Perform detailed cost analysis of components & manufacturing processes used by our suppliers to ensure highest quality at the lowest cost solution.
  • Effectively manage sourcing process to meet critical milestones and resolve or escalate issues such as delivery, quality or other as required.
  • Analyze and calculate costs and suggest methods to decrease
  • Track and/or prepare reports on productivity, forecasts, supplier performance.
  • Be able to pull and analyse relevant data to prepare reports on spend, cost, productivity or other as required.


Supplier Management

  • Build and maintain strong working relations with existing and potential suppliers.
  • Initiate early supplier engagement into the product development process to benefit from ideas and innovation that will provide an “edge”
  • Monitor supplier performance through scorecards and develop improvement strategies.
  • Participate in new supplier pre-qualification process in partnership with Supplier Development, Product Development, QA and any other key stakeholder required for input.

Reporting and Presentation

  • Prepare and present monthly operating reviews as required
  • Present Strategic alignment and progress reviews to Business
  • Travel is required 10% - 20% internationally
     

You should apply if you have the following:

  • Strong knowledge and experience of SAP and the Procure-to-Pay Process beneficial
  • Proven work experience sourcing CPG in a fast-paced high-volume environment.
  • Proven work experience in sourcing, category management and supplier management.
  • Great business acumen and ability to communicate and present at senior levels within the organisation.
  • Hands on experience with sourcing software
  • Strong project management and leadership skills
  • Must possess the following core competencies:

Required Qualification & Experience:

  • 8+ years Strategic Sourcing experience
  • 4+ years of CPG sourcing experience.  Experience in sourcing finished goods products outside of NA would be considered an asset
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • PMAC an asset
  • Experience working with SAP or other ERP to input and pull relevant data
  • Experience with contract management and working knowledge of contract law would be an asset
  • Direct exposure to the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry is preferred
  • Experience with sourcing corrugate, paper products and injection molded parts an asset
  • Written and oral Spanish and/or French language are desirable
