Regional Supervisor, Merchandising Operations

Job Overview:

The function of the Regional Supervisor is to oversee operations of retail merchandising operations within an assigned region. The Regional Supervisor is tasked with ensuring the various project initiatives are running smoothly and that involved employees are meeting performance goals. Team Leads and Merchandising reps are interviewed and hired by the Regional Supervisor. 

Regional Supervisors are strong operational leaders with a thorough understanding of retail merchandising and people management. They possess strong analytical skills and are effective problem solvers. Regional Supervisors hire, train and develop their teams. They are responsible for overall team performance in meeting KPI metrics, including store visits, product pulls, features maintained and direct to store ordering.

The Regional Supervisor will work closely with their Team Leads and communicate regularly regarding reporting/administration and tracking performance metrics to goals.

  • Direct Reports: Merchandising Team Leads and Representatives in assigned market/region
  • Reporting to: Manager, U.S. Retail Operations

 

 

Regional  Supervisor  Performance Objectives and Role Accountabilities

Team Management Accountabilities (not all inclusive)

Proven history of merchandising management experience, preferably multi-team member experience. Regional Supervisors must have the ability to analyze financial reports. Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills also a must.

Principal Duties

  • Oversees all regional programs and directs the work of personnel to ensure

annual and long-range goals are being met.

  • Reviews and updates the department policies, procedures, and process standards to improve field performance as needed
  • Assesses the need for increased/decreased coverage within the region in cooperation with departmental growth initiatives.
  • Works with Manager to develop and administer the region’s travel/budget plan
  • Keeps Office management team informed of issues within their region and provides action plan for improvement. Compiles background information to facilitate the decision-making
  • Is capable of preparing and compiling performance metric materials and providing performance insights and developing action steps for weekly/monthly/quarterly Management meetings,
  • Works with Manager to develop division’s annual goal setting plan, long range plan and field metrics

 Human Resources/Administration

  • Makes quality hiring decisions
    • Responsible for  interviewing and decision making for hiring new team members in assigned region (following departmental hiring process)

      • Works with District Manager, Talent Acquisition and Human Resources on process
      • Creates and provides territory information including maps, store lists, coverage metrics, and auto allowance (following departmental auto allowance process)
  • Manages effective onboarding and training of new team members
  • Responsible for monitoring and approving payroll (following departmental payroll process)
    • Responsible for time off requests (approving/denying) following departmental process and works with Human Resources where applicable regarding disability, bereavement, leave of absence, etc.
  • Responsible for termination of team members in assigned region
    • Works with District Manager and Human Resources on process

 

Administration (Reporting) & Communication

  • Proper planning, execution and reporting for developed and assigned projects
    • Meets assigned deadlines
  • Meets communication guidelines, both oral and written including and not limited to appropriate response time to email, voicemail and developed and assigned project communication
  • Applies productive communication and involvement during conference calls (both leading and participating), projects, and corporate events
    • Includes responsibilities and accountabilities in being part of the leadership group for national merchandising meetings.

 

Performance Management for Team Members

  • Works with all direct reports in setting KPI’s
    • Ensures that staff meet KPI Objectives
  • Tracks performance throughout year
  • Executes direct reports KPI reviews
  • Effectively trains and develops Team Lead staff and Reps
    • Responsible for on-going development of Team Lead staff and Reps to ensure team members are meeting/exceeding departmental key performance indicators (store visits, product pulls, features set, direct to store ordering, administration/communication)
    • Manages, performs and documents in-field visits/assessments for Team Leads and Team Members
  • Implements (creates/develops) performance management program and uses appropriate metrics to evaluate performance of their region.
    • Includes score carding metrics, promotional compliancy, administration and communication expectations.
  • Evaluates quality of staff on an ongoing basis, and makes actionable plans and decisions.
    • Works with team lead staff and team members to develop action plans to improve performance
  • Recognizes need to upgrade quality of staff
    • Responsible for addressing performance issues for team members and second level (Following Outlined Departmental Performance Improvement Process) and final recommendations regarding an employee, up to and including termination (Following Outlined Departmental Reprimand Process).

 

Leadership and Strategic Thinking

  • Develops, creates, and implements effective regional strategies consistent with the business and competitive strategy of the organization
  • Determines regional objectives/challenges and sets priorities (in addition to departmental initiatives)
  • Anticipates and communicates potential in-field issues or opportunities.
    • Offers advice and solutions to issues.

 

 Financial Acumen

  • Forecasting and budgeting of payouts for departmental incentive programs
  • Forecasting for departmental Direct to store ordering programs
  • Capable of understanding and interpreting financial information
  • Capable of managing business/travel expenses within departmental policies

 

Product Knowledge & Industry Competency

  • Has a practical and applied knowledge of all Spin Master Product
  • Continuously educates self on competitive toys/children's products, environment, including key manufactures, products and retail trends.
  • Continues to develop a stronger understanding of Retailer Standards and Operational practices and communicates how they can benefit the department/company.

 

Organization Chart:

  • Reports Directly to District Manager

  • External customers – Retail customers including but not limited to Wal-Mart, Toys ‘R Us and Target

  • Internal Customers may include, Sales, Marketing, Planning and Global Supply Chain

Job Requirements

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3+ years of previous leadership/management experience required, preferably in a Sales Merchandising role with a Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) organization or third party merchandising company.
  • College Degree required.
