Reporting to the Snr Finance Manager, the Financial Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely (monthly, quarterly and annual) accounting and reporting, for local and Toronto HQ corporate purposes, of the UK managed European legal entities as required. The candidate will be responsible for financial control & reporting on a day to day basis, be a key contributor to the forecast & planning processes, be responsible for ad-hoc reporting and analysis, working with the business units and rest of the Finance team to enable an understanding of monthly variances.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Monthly, quarterly, and annual General Ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and variance analysis, liaising with the SSC in Bratislava and corporate functions of Accounting & Reporting, Tax, Treasury, Internal Controls & Audit, IT, and Indirect Procurement;
  • Manage reporting of financial information to Corporate Headquarters in accordance with deadlines, including reporting of performance against objectives;
  • Preparation and review of monthly management accounts and any supporting analytical information ensuring accuracy and integrity of the financial and management reporting in accordance with local and Group Reporting timelines and high-quality standards, under IFRS requirements;
  • Review month end P&L market reporting and sales reports to be supplied to the sales team and management team;
  • Hold regular cost centre reviews with the business unit leaders, and work with them to maintain departmental operational costs within budget or forecast, especially marketing and sales accruals; review the month end reports (G&A overhead focus) and comment on performance against objectives;
  • Business partnering, supporting management teams as required in understanding their financial data and performance, including the preparation of ad hoc reports;
  • Support the budget/forecast process through preparation and review of overhead budgets working with the business unit leaders, and submission to corporate headquarters in accordance with timelines;
  • Preparation of the bi-weekly/monthly cash flow forecasts, including variance analyses to previous forecasts, and submission to Corporate Treasury;
  • Responsible for preparation of Statutory Accounts under local GAAP (Dutch, IFRS), ensure compliance with applicable local regulatory laws for financial and tax reporting, and liaise with external tax advisors, and Corporate Tax Department as needed, to prepare the VAT, WHT and CIT returns;
  • Supporting internal and external audit requirements, as applicable, to ensure successful audit completions with no material control weaknesses and no material audit findings or adjustments;
  • Driving continuous improvements in processes to deliver more efficient and effective financial reporting and analysis processes;
  • Maintain compliance with company policies and processes, effective internal controls and procedures to ensure organizational risks are minimized
  • Assist in supporting Finance Team requests, ad-hoc analysis, and any local projects as required.

Job Requirements

Required Skill Set:

  • Good communication skills, rigorous, organised and able to work collaboratively with commercial and finance teams and manage people.
  • In-depth knowledge in accounting (IFRS, local GAAP) and controlling, risk management and taxation;
  • Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, work independently and a self-starter;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
  • Team player with proven ability to work well under pressure and deadlines
  • Ability to travel for business purposes as required;
  • Team management experience working in a matrix structure;
  • Excellent communication skills in English

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • University Graduate with a good education record
  • Professional Accountancy Qualification with PQE of a minimum of 2-5 years’ experience preferably in the FMCG, Toy or Fashion industries
  • Experience of Accounting, Reporting, Budgeting, Forecasting, Variance Analysis and Business Support
  • Experience working with SAP and Business Intelligence
  • Good knowledge of Excel
